The year is 1948 and I am the young lad shown encouraging his mother to look at the control-line Spitfire model in the window of a local Bradford model shop. Many of the models on display had been built by my elder brother who went on to join the design department of English Electric working on the iconic Canberra and Lightning aircraft in the 1950s. He was to be a massive influence on my 40 year career as an aviation artist.
For those who are also transport enthusiasts, the car being loaded with a model aircraft kit is a Vauxhall.
This is an acrylic painting on a 22" x 18" canvas board framed with a substantial timber moulding giving an overall size of 28" x 24".
This painting won a major award at the 2024 annual exhibition of the Guild of Aviation Artists
